Julia S. Beck
Strategist · Speaker · Author · Founder, It’s Working Project
I am a writer. My subject is the intersection of caregiving and working life, with a focus on women — that is where the cost concentrates. My evidence is more than five hundred first-person narratives, given to me by those living them.
Since 1991 I have been a partner to private-sector employers, and I bring that record in with me. It shows leadership the gap between workplace policy and the complexity of the lives their employees actually live. Together we reshape policy and culture until they meet those lives.
I know what that gap costs because I am in these buildings. Recruitment, retention, reputation, brand — every one of them is decided by what happens outside the building.
The Panini Generation™ is the framework I built to name it. The Panini Not Ordered is the book, forthcoming. The Portrait Project is the archive, and it is still open.
I recognize what you are carrying.
Relentless caregiving demands, designed and normalized as familial obligation — and assigned, most often, to women. The economic impact is impossible to ignore. Caregivers absorb the cost while organizations lose the ability to recruit and retain talent. Economic indicators report the news long before institutions begin to notice or attempt to make sense of what is happening.
I know how the design works. I know where it breaks. I know how it cascades through the private sector from inside out. I recognize the small, easy-to-mitigate flaws within institutions and organizations that set them up to fail.
My strategic partnership is focused on early intervention — accurate, actionable solutions that remove the threat of certain failure.
Their trust in my work underscores the truth: The system won’t change fast enough. We can’t wait.
